Topical formulations are used to combat a multitude of diseased states of the eye. These may include bacterial infections, eye injury, glaucoma, and dry eye.
The Pharmacists at Orange Grove continue to research, as new FDA approved medications become available, to combat many eye diseases.
Glaucoma is a common eye condition where the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain, becomes damaged. It's usually caused by fluid building up in the front part of the eye, which increases pressure inside the eye.
Glaucoma can lead to loss of vision if it's not diagnosed and treated early.
Initial treatment for Glaucoma is prescribed daily eyedrops.
There are many Glaucoma medication eye drop options available.
Ensuring the Orange Grove Pharmacy maintains a full selection of the less expensive generic eye drops, plus the branded options is our aim.
Glaucoma eye drops are to be used daily, to avoid build up of fluid pressure in the eye.
Careful use of these eyedrops to ensure they last a month is important

DIABETIC RETINOPATHY
Recent treatments for diabetic retinopathy include a combination of IRIDEX LASER TREATMENT and INJECTION, of some of the newer medications available, to try to combat the vision loss from diabetic retinopathy.
The Pharmacy and Ophthalmology Team work closely together to ensure the latest injectable medications are available for the Retinal Ophthalmic Surgeon, Dr Alejandro, at Orange Grove, for Diabetic Retinopathy patients.

With the increasing use of computers and tablets, the optometry team are finding that dry eye can become a problem.
Dry eye disease affects the layers of tears that cover your cornea. Dry Eye happens when you don’t have enough tears, or when your tears evaporate too quickly.
Symptoms include burning, itching and a gritty feeling in your eye. You may need to try several different treatments, including eye drops and procedures, to find a solution that works for you.
What is the most common reason for DRY EYE?
The most common cause is meibomian gland dysfunction. This means the glands in your eyelids that produce the outer, oily layer of your tear film are clogged and not working properly.
The Eye Spa at Orange Grove offer a treatment plan with a combination of different heat therapies and Blephex treatment to relieve the symptoms of dry eye.
