The Ophthalmology Team work closely with the Optometry Team at Vision Express, to diagnose medical eye problems as early as possible , so that a treatment plan can be started, or a surgery planned.
An initial diagnosis, for a medical eye problem , will often be made in one of the five Vision Express stores , by one of the optometry team, during a comprehensive eye examination.
Referral is then made to one of our in house Ophthalmology Team.
Your appointment with the ophthalmologist will normally mean your eyes need to be dilated. This will, temporarily, mean you vision is blurry , so it’s always good to have someone to accompany you.
For a more detailed diagnosis, when needed, and in house treatments ,or same day surgery, the new Orange Grove location is fully equipped to offer the most accurate diagnosis, and the best treatment and surgery options.

GLAUCOMA
Early diagnosis of Glaucoma during a routine eye examination , can save your sight. In recent years there have been advances in glaucoma detection, which means it can be treated earlier than ever, and 95% of people who have glaucoma do not need to go blind. But if you have family with Glaucoma, an annual full eye examination is vital… you will not know you have GLAUCOMA before your vision is lost, unless your eye pressure is checked by an optometrist.
CATARACT
Early detection, of the start of a “ cloudy lens” is referred to as a cataract. Once you know the lens in your eye has the start of a cataract , you can plan surgery at any time. This is a "once only" surgery with a new IOL implanted , so it is not necessary to wait until your vision has deteriorated, making your life difficult, before you arrange the surgery. Many patients are even opting for Refractive Lens Exchange Surgery, which replaces your natural lens, as a way to remove the need for glasses.
